ELA 27
The seam: learning to read ends here.
Meridian Note
The famous seam, and the heaviest fix-year on the ELA line — because learning to read ends here or compounds as debt across the widest part of the curve. Decoding takes its terminal fix at KS-7 — untaught multisyllabic words and pseudowords attacked cold — and is thereafter consumed by sight recognition, exactly as fractions are later consumed by ratios. Comprehension reaches KS-6, the paragraph, the morpheme inventory, the evidence habit, and the grammar metalanguage all enter at KS-4, and sentence conventions must now hold unprompted at KS-7 in the student's own writing.
